WHAT'S HOT! - 2009/2010 SUMMER FASHION
2009/2010 Summer Fashion Guide
The Maxi Dress
The Maxi Dress is back in various styles and prints. Once again this is the easiest piece to get wrong. It is all about balance. Too much fabric, too many layers and frills can look completely unbalanced on the wrong body shape. Prints can be extremely flattering on the right body shape. Choose carefully for your body shape and keep accessories simple if the dress has a lot of detail or a lot of colour. If the dress is simple in style and colour then utilize the correct accessories to create your own flair and style.
The Jumpsuit
The jumpsuit is a new addition this summer. Depending on the style, the jumpsuit can take you from day to night. Like the Maxi Dress if you choose the wrong style for your body shape, then it can look disastrous. A softly tailored jumpsuit teamed with the right accessories can give you that edge for a glam night out whilst a short playsuit style can take you to lunch or afternoon drinks on a hot summers day, once again teamed with the right accessories. The jumpsuit is one piece that can look fabulous on various body shapes. The trick is to choose the right style for your body shape and give it your own personal touch, with accessories.
The Harem Pant
The Harem Pant is another revival this summer. This look is definitely not for everyone as the basic style of this pant adds volume around the stomach and thighs. If your body shape does not require volume around these areas then you should be admiring this particular pant on someone else. If you can afford to add the volume on your body shape then this look is best teamed with a fitted top and cropped jacket, add a pair of wedges and you have a very flattering and stylish look.
The Peg Leg Pant
The Peg Leg Pant unlike the Harem Pant is slightly more flattering on the right body shape. This pant has slightly more structure through the leg and does not drop low through the crotch area. Team this pant with a structured piece to create balance and a great pair of booties or platforms. The fabric plays a very important part in both of these styles as the fabric must be soft so that the pant drapes softly otherwise it can look very bulky and not too many need that amount of volume on the stomach and thighs. The ideal body shape for these styles is tall and lean or petite frame with longer legs.

Prints and Colours
Prints that you will see in stores range from Safari Animal Prints to Large Abstract Florals. Stripes are in again and can be very flattering if worn correctly.
The bright colours are purple, orange, red, colbalt blue, emerald green and chartruse.
The big pastel colour for this season is nude. You will see it in everything from dresses to shoes. Not everyone can wear this colour well near their face so if that is the case for you then buy a pair of nude shoes or a nude bag. Nude is a colour that can look great when teamed with black or metallics.
Your Body Shape and this Seasons Skirts The straight and narrow skirt is suited to a long curvy body shape with a flat stomach. A curvy body shape can wear either a tailored top/jacket or a loose top. This style on a long slender body shape can look great but should be teamed with a loose top to create some volume and avoid the body shape looking too lanky.
The Full Pleated Skirt is suited to a shorter petite body shape to create volume but should be teamed with a fitted top and cropped jacket or cardi. Pleats add volume so do be aware of this fact when choosing a skirt this summer.
The Tulip Style is a flattering skirt for a body shape with fuller hips but shapely legs. This skirt should finish on the knee or just below. No pleating except for two inverted pleats, vertically in line with each thigh. This style is soft on the tummy and allows for the hip area so teamed with a structured top it be a very flattering look.
The A-Line Skirt is and has always been a big winner for most body shapes. It does the same as a boot leg jean as this suits most body shapes as well. The fabric of this skirt is important as softer fabrics can fall better off the hips and big patterns can add unwanted volume so once again it is vital to pick wisely and make sure that before you buy the skirt ticks all of the right boxes for your body shape.
